WIN AWAY AT WROXHAM FOR NEEDHAM MARKET WOMEN

Needham Market secured a wonderful 2-1 away victory in Norfolk against Wroxham to all but confirm the clubs premier league status for another season.

It was a first half of dominance with the pace in attack causing the home team problems and it finally told in stoppage time with goals from Mia Etheridge-Golding and then Sheryce Slater.

Wroxham pulled one back through Lauren Kett from another corner early on as they dominated the second half with the wind at their backs, but they failed to find an equaliser.

The home side had a few moments early on but as the half-progressed Needham grew in confidence and took control.

Paige Wakefield hit the bar twice from free kicks with one from range and the other just on the dee while live wires Ellie Rossiter and Annie Posnett both had one on ones saved as they beat the offside trap to get in behind only to be thwarted by the keeper.

Needham looked dangerous from set pieces, and it was a corner that lead to the breakthrough as the home side failed to clear and Etheridge-Golding hit a sweet strike against the post but with luck on her side it rebounded against the keepers back and into the net.

And only a minute later it was two as Slater finished from close range as Wroxham again failed to clear another invitingcorner.

Wroxham made the better start to the second half with an immediate way back into the game as first Amber Locker made a brilliant one on one save but couldn’t deny Kett from the resulting corner.

The home side continued to use the wind to their advantage and were unlucky with the woodwork coming to Needham’s aid twice just as it had done for them in the first half.

But Needham always held a threat on the counter and showed great defensive resilience to earn a much-deserved win after a barron run without one.

Lots to be very pleased with and plenty of positives to take with just a couple more games of this league campaign left to play.
