MARKETWOMEN RECORD BACK-TO-BACK WINS

Needham Market Women scored three times after the break to record a 4-2 win over Watford Development.

The Marketwomen started brightly, and took the lead on 16 minutes as Cate Jackson latched onto a great through-ball before cutting inside into the box and smashing home into the top far corner.

A mixture of good defending and crossbar denied Watford from equalising until the 27th minute when the visitors levelled proceedings.

The away side shot narrowly over before Holly Wilks gave Watford the lead ten minutes before half-time.

Before the break however, Needham almost equalised. Smart play from Cate Jackson saw her shot tipped onto the post by the keeper on 39 minutes, while Becca Stephenson saw a shot go just over the bar in stoppage time.

The Marketwomen though were clinical in the second half, which combined with some great defending that restricted Watford to no shots on target after the break, in a great team performance.

The home side were back level 8 minutes after the restart, Niamh Thomas' throw found Becca Stephenson whose clever cutback set up Cate Jackson to smash home her second goal of the afternoon.

Annie Posnett then saw a dangerous cutback just evade a Red shirt arriving at the far post on 56 minutes, while Jackson saw a cross-shot turned behind by the keeper at her near post.

Laura Bloomfield volleyed just over, before Needham retook the lead on the hour mark as Becca Stephenson smashed home into the bottom corner.

Needham sealed all 3 points just inside the final ten minutes, Annie Posnett rounded off a great move, latching onto a through-ball to fire home into the far corner.

There was no game this weekend for the development team but they return to action next weekend as they host Woodbridge Town. First team travel to Royston Town.
