WARRENS WORDS ROYSTON AWAY

Warren Lewis-Claxton was proud of his team’s efforts as they finished off their last away game with three points in a 2-0 win against Royston Town.

Both teams have very little to play for in League terms but for Needham it was the perfect preparation for next week’s Suffolk Cup Final against Bungay.

It was a tight first half with Needham having more attempts on goal but Royston having the best chance when they rattledthe bar.

The home side started the second period the better but were punished by Lois Balfour before Needham took control and could and should have had more than just a fine headed goal by Mia Etheridge.

Warren said: “Really pleased with the performance, we had to bounce back from a couple of poor games, but this was a really good reaction from the group.

“A midweek game is nice to do something a bit different under the lights, and we leave happy with all 3 deserved points”.

The first half was tight as both teams struggled to get behind each other defences but for the majority of the second half Needham showed exactly how good a team they can be.

Warren continued: “First half I think we rushed a bit too much, trying to force a goal, when we didn’t need too.

“Second half we were much more composed, and that showed with getting the goals in the game, and defensively staying very strong. Both Eloise & Lindsey had a brilliant game at the back, won every header, blocking shots and comfortable coming out with the ball too.

“All over the pitch we were way better than weeks gone by, the midfield worked hard to retain the ball, and the forwards created themselves lots of chances, and we could of easily had a few more goals in the game too”.

As the title slipped away in the last few weeks there has been a few disappointing performances but for Warren this was a nice return to form with it being the last opportunity to breed some confidence before next week’s cup final.

Warren concluded: “This win puts us in a much better situation for the county cup final on Tuesday. Gives us the momentum and positive mindset we need to go into this game”.
