TOUGH DAY FOR NEEDHAM MARKET WOMEN

Needham Market suffered a massive 6-1 defeat at home to Barking as the winless run deepened at Bloomfields.

It was a good start by the home side who led midway through the half thanks to a Paige Wakefield free kick but were then hit by two goals in two minutes from Laura Bunton and Ammarah Ali.

Barking took complete control in the second and added four with out reply as Bunton completed her hat trick and then added a fourth before Ali rounded it off.

The game started off slow, but Needham had control, looking comfortable at the back and dangerous in attack but just lacking in the final third.

Wakefield was returning to the team after a long absence through injury and she had a couple attempts with one forcing the goalkeeper into a smart tip round the post.

But the deadlock was broken on 25 when Needham won a free kick just outside the area and Wakefield marked her return with a trademark curler into the net.

The home side were in control as the half wore on but found themselves behind in the space of a couple of minutes as first Bunton showed real skill to burst to the touchline before cutting inside and curling home.

And moments later the visitors were ahead as a neat passing move cut the Needham defence wide open and Ali ran into the large gap to tuck home over the onrushing Yaz Walford in goal.

In the second period Bunton knocked one into the bottom corner before smashing a fourth for the finish of the game from outside the box to complete her hat trick.

Another two came from Bunton and Ali and they could have had a seventh from an impressive finish but for the offside flag.

A tough day at Bloomfields as Needham try to navigate themselves out the toughest period in the clubs young history.
