Needham Market have progressed to the second round of the Suffolk Cup with a resounding win over Premiership side Bury Town Community Women.
They started as favourites being two tiers ahead of their opponents and the gulf in quality ultimately told as the tier five flexed their muscles as they look to win back the trophy they lost last season to AFC Sudbury.
Annie Posnett opened the scoring after being played in by Millie Baggott and she soon had a second after being fouled in the area – although it was saved, she tucked home the rebound.
Posnett continued to be a menace, and it was another run that brought Rebecca Stephenson a tap in after the original shot had been saved – by Bury goalkeeper Megan Barnes, who made numerous terrific saves during the match.
Moments later it was an action replay, but Posnett was the recipient a rebound tap in to complete her hat trick.
An own goal from a corner added to the scoreline before Baggott scored her first goal in Needham colours after her move in the summer with a composed one on one finish.
Stephenson then went on to complete her hat trick with a smart finish into the corner before completing it with a long-range rocket.
Keira Topple then rounded off the scoring on a comfortable day for the Eastern Regional side with the goals building confidence to the front line as the team looks to build on the performance at Norwich last week when they return to league action at Haringey.
