Needham Market are delighted to announce the signing of defender Matty Tricker.
Matty played for Colchester United's Academy from the age of 13 to 19, before playing in the USL 2 summer leagues at South Carolina United and Salem City in America while on a football scholarship at Coker University.
He was notably named as Defensive Player Of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year in his conference, along with an All American recognition and named Male Athlete of the year at Coker as his team reached the nationals last 16.
Matty joins the Marketmen having been on trial previously, on visits back from America, as well as this summer.
On joining the club, Matty said, "I was lucky to be able to train with the club a couple of times when I was back from the states. I know the club from being around the area, having a few friends that played here, I know it’s a very good set up and an ambitious club."
Manager Tom Rothery said, "Matty reached out in pre-season but at that time we had everything settled and I was happy with what we had brought in. Obviously the situation with Tom then created a gap so Matty was invited in and has done well in the games. He’s trained with us before when he’s returned from America so we know he’s technically a very sound player I think supporters will have seen that in the games he played at home this pre-season also. Now back home he’s looking to find his level and settle in at a club. I think it’s a good fit for us both and I’m looking forward to working with him this season and pleased that we’ve been able to get somebody in quickly to finalise the squad again."
