IMPORTANT WIN FOR THE MARKETMEN

Needham Market picked 3 crucial points a proverbial six-pointer at home to Warrington Town.

The result means, although Needham remain bottom, that there is only a six point gap between 18th and 24th, with Needham making 4 changes to the midweek trip to Scunthorpe - Dan Morphew (injured), Seth Chambers, Jacob Lay and Reggie Lambe (all 3 on the bench) were replaced by debutant Iffy Allen, Josh Tomlinson, Jamie McGrath and Tevan Allen.

Needham, who have completed their first double of the season after a 2-1 away win in August, were the better side first half, controlling possession, before dominating the final 20 minutes, with clear cut chances at a premium.

After Luke Ingram fired over in the 16 minutes, Warrington saw a close range half volleyed shot go just wide ten minutes later.

Ingram then saw a 32nd minute shot blocked, before Warrington hit the crossbar moments later.

Needham however deservedly broke the deadlock in the 43nd minute after Peter Clarke was booked after hacking down MOTM Jake Dye. Ingram stepped up, cooly finding the bottom left-hand corner.

The visitors meanwhile equalised on 54 minutes as Atherton's ball forward was converted into the bottom right-hand corner by Morris.

Clarke then whistled a shot just wide, before Josh Blunkell made a quick double save in the 63rd minute - with the first a flying save to deny Amis at close range - as Warrington had the better of the opening twenty minutes after the break.

Ingram then shot just wide at the other end, followed by McGrath heading Hammond's right wing cross at Atherton, with Needham again dominating possession in the closing stages.

Blunkell again denied the visitors, who then volleyed a shot over before Seth Chambers fired just wide of the far corner.

Lambe fired just wide, before Tevan Allen's goal-bound shot was handled for a second Needham penalty in the 92 minute, which Chambers converted into the bottom right-hand to seal a big three points.

Needham travel to Brackley Town on Tuesday (7:45pm).

Reaction From Defender Jake Dye

DK: A huge win today, you must be pleased.

JD: Yeah, must win. I thought first half we were very good. Probably could have had another couple and then yeah, we had a freak 10-15 minutes. But yeah, last-ditch penalty right at the end, Seth tucked (it) away nicely. Obviously results sort of went our way, sort of didn't, so it makes it interesting now going to last, what, 15-16 games. But yeah, big win, big three points.

As you say, yeah, big game for me. Very happy, very chuffed, very thankful to still be here and thankful for the people who's helped me through, don't know how that's happened. But yeah, like I say, just thankful for the staff, the managers who I've had through my journey.

Yeah, just still really happy to be here, be a part of it. Obviously, hopefully stay up this year. That's obviously the main aim now. We're in a bit of a dogfight, so all guns blazing to stay up and yeah, hopefully many more.

DK: Yeah, you won the penalty that got the scoring underway in the first half as well.

JD: Yeah, it was a bit of a weird one really. Ingers' just slid it down the side and I thought their defender was just going to sweep around and sweep it up. But he sort of waited for me to make inroads and I think personally he just tried to hold himself back to try and clatter me, if I'm honest, which he didn't really need to do.

Obviously, he just nicked in front and yeah, won the penalty and Ingers tucked it away nicely as well.

DK: Other than like 15-20 minutes or so of the second half, we deserved it.

JD: Yeah, we were comfortable. I mean, when it went 1-1, we were knocking on the door more often than not. A bit of a weird one really. Josh obviously went down, came off injured and had a little bit of a reshuffle and just didn't really get the grips of it. They were just playing off long balls and little flick-ons and a deep run, he ran through and tucked it away. But yeah, fair play to the lads. Obviously, we dug in deep, like I say, knocked on the door lots, especially the last 10 minutes and yeah, the pressure paid off.

DK: Next up, the first of two away trips, with Brackley.

JD: Yeah, coming up Brackley. Obviously, it's going to be a tough game. I think their play-offs, they're up there at the minute. I think the result at our place didn't really reflect it too much. But yeah, we'll be going there with obviously a little bit of confidence. We've won six points from 3 games, so hopefully we can carry that on. We've got nothing really to lose, we're away from home. But yeah, we'll go there with the same intensity of trying to win the game. And then yeah, big one next Saturday at Farsley.
