DEFEAT FOR NEEDHAM MARKET WOMEN

It was another goal fest at Bloomfields as Haringey Boroughtriumphed 5-3 over Needham as the home side remained winless in the league in 2024.

The first half was action packed as Needham led twice thanks to goals from Ellie Rossiter and Keira Topple but they were pegged back by Nellz Humes, who scored a brace and KylieManktelow.

Goals continued to flow in the second period as the away sidestretch their lead thanks to a penalty from Amber Leightonand a howitzer from Lillian Hart before a late Lina Nagib pen reduced the arrears.

It was a whirlwind start as Rossiter opened the scoring to the bemusement of the everyone in the ground as her cross went straight in with most in the ground not realising it had gone in.

The lead didn’t last long as Humes incepted a pass out by Evie McKane and rolled it under her, but Needham went back in front as Topple burst through and powerfully struck to restore the lead.

Haringey started to take control and pinned Needham back, so it was no surprise to see them equalise again as Manktelowstruck from the edge of the box as the home side struggled to clear a corner.

The game settled a little after that with Needham almost going ahead again but it was Haringey, who went in ahead as Needham lost possession high up the field and we punished as Humes was released and calmy beat McKane for her second and their third.

Needham came out of the blocks well and pushed for an equaliser, but their task was made harder by going further behind when Sheryce Slater committed a foul in the box and Leighton tucked away the pen.

Haringey always looked dangerous, and they killed the game with the goal of the game from Hart, whose 30-yard drive ripped into the roof of the net.

To Needham’s credit they didn’t stop and were rewarded with a late spot kick of their own, which was convincingly tucked away by Nagib.

But it was a little too little too late as Haringey returned to London with all three points and left their hosts searching for that elusive league win this calendar year.
