Defeat At Home For Marketmen

A goal, against the run of play, at the end of each half earn Nuneaton Borough a 2-0 victory at Needham Market, inflicting a first home defeat on the Marketmen.


Tommy Smith, Luke Ingram & Jamie McGrath returned to the starting eleven after beinv rested in Wednesday's win at Long Melford.


In truth, Needham created the better chances, enjoyed more of the possession, however just couldn't find a way through. Jamie McGrath went close on 17 minutes, but glanced Tommy Smith's sumptuous left wing cross just wide.


Hammond then dragged a shot wide of the bottom right-hand corner on 24 minutes, before Nuneaton capitalised on an injury to Dan Morphew to break the deadlock on 37 minutes.


Butterfield's shot was blocked from a long throw for Nirennold to hook into the net.

Needham though almost equalised when Jake Dye just couldn't connect with Jacob Lay's left wing dangerous low cross flashed across the face of goal on 41 minutes, while Tevan Allen curled over after weaving into space on 44 minutes.


Jacob Lay then saw a low shot, from inside the box, crucially blocked after some patient passing buildup on 45+5 minutes, while after the restart, Jamie McGrath saw a fierce shot beaten away on 47 minutes.


Marcus Garnham's long ball over the top bounced past the defence to release McGrath through one one on the right-hand side, although his fierce shot across goal is beaten away by the diving goalkeeper, with Luke Ingram air kicking the rebound.


Nuneaton's striker then saw a shot sail over on 54 minutes, before Dylan Williams' seemingly defected 4-yard poked shot went over from point blank range for agoal-kick.


A double save on the hour mark saw Ingram, then Lay denied by the Borough keeper. First, Ingram broke through on the right-hand byline whose close range cross/shot was beaten away by the keeper, as far as Hammond arriving outside the box whose fierce shot was blocked. Lay then broke through smartly down the left but his tight angled low shot was well held.


Needham continued to hunt for an equaliser on 67 minutes, after Lay rode a dangerous sliding challenge to break through down the left wing, albeit his dangerous cross cross saw Hammond's shot blocked.


Substitute Callum Page then saw a shot, from the edge of the box, just held by the keeper on 70 minutes, before Kyle Hammond rifled a shot narrowly over from 25-yards out a minute later.


Seth Chambers almostt provided Needham with the equaliser on 74 minutes, but could only slice his 6-yard karate kick from a dangerous right wing cross across to the back post wide of the target.


Tevan Allen then fired over from just outside the box in the 81st minute, before Lay fired a ferocious shot just over, also from outside the box on 85 minutes.


Leroy Lita then made the points safe for Borough on 88 minutes, smashing home into the bottom left-hand, near, corner from the edge of the box, to wrap up all three points for the visitors.
