A good performance from the Young Marketmen turns out invain as goals from Taylor and Poxon ensure Debenham take the points.

Needham Market Reserves fall to a disappointing 0-2 defeat at home to Debenham LC on a very wet night at Bloomfields.

First half started fairly openly, Debenham having the first chance, looking to feed a man through on the left but went all the way through to Needham stopper Owen Elsdon who gathered low at his far post on 7 minutes. Debenham then found Harry Brown through on the left edge of the box a minute later, though the shot was blocked by a defender. Needham meanwhile had a great chance in the ninth minute, as a long ball to Caleb Palmer on the edge of the box saw the Needham player control it well as Ben Harris took over advancing onto the left inside the box, the forward then laid off possession to Taylor Sumpter to swing in a great out swinging cross in  curling across the face of goal but beating the Needham man running in. The home side then had another fantastic chance on 12 minutes, great play from Needham saw Macauley Bell's good ball in on the right finds Ben Harris close to goal at the near post but could only head on instead of at goal as Debenham saw it clear. Seconds later, another good Needham ball into the area, this time from Ben Harris was once more not made advantage of by the Reds. Three minutes later, Debenham had a chance themselves as a great ball into the area on the left found a man in the middle who just couldn't direct his shot goalwards. The Young Marketmen then went close on 18 minutes, Taylor Sumpter whipping in a great outswinging ball on the right finding Shane Wardley two yards out at the far post, as the centre-back did well to leap above his defender and win the header, although the ball rebounded off the base of the outside of the left post and unfortunately wide from the hosts perspective.

Debenham then had a great chance on 20 minutes, the away side's good pass and move play seeing a cross in on the right finding a man at the far post on the byline to square across to a man at the left post from close range to help it goalwards although Owen Elsdon made a good reaction save to block it behind for a corner. Debenham then had appeals for a penalty waved away by the referee two minutes later, after a man went down on the right in the box. On the half hour mark, Debenham had another opportunity, a free-kick on the left edge of the box in a dangerous position was hit low with the wall making the block, the ball then fell to Ashley Holmes on the right edge of the box whose ball back into the far byline found an offside man whose header across was put wide by a man at the right byline- although the offside was given. The Hornets then had another appeal for a penalty not given by the referee in the thirty-fourth minute as a man went down on the right. Debenham though opened the scoring on 36 minutes, a great corner in on the left found Luke Taylor clsoe to goal at the far post to bullet header home into the top left corner, 0-1 Debenham. The young Marketmen though responded well by going agonisingly close two minutes later, 0a great ball in on the right found Reuben Cowler on the far side just inside the area to lay off to Macauley Bell on the edge of the area, with the latter's great strike at the bottom left corner being vitally deflected inches past the post by the defender. The resulting corner however found Jamey Williams on the left edge of the box who fired a shot over the crossbar. Four minutes before the break, Debenham went close as Harry Brown was through on the left byline in the box forced a good low stop by Owen Elsdon who reacted well to palm away at his near post. The ball meanwhile fell back to Brown who looked to curl home into the top right corner from a similar angle to the attempt previous, though the ball went just past the post. Debenham therefore going into the break a goal up.

HALF TIME: Needham Market Reserves 0-1 Debenham LC

The second half was dominated by the home side mostly, who were unlucky not to grab at least a goal or two themselves, the lively Ben Harris trying his luck from the left edge of the box only to fire over on 49 minutes. Up the other end though, Debenham had a go at goal 4 minutes later, Stolley's fierce strike on the right edge of the box ending up low and just wide of the bottom near corner. Needham went close again on 54 minutes, Thomas Fitzgerald racing through to the right edge of box finding substitute Kai Fletcher through with a ball round the defender into the box though the keeper was off his line well to narrow the angle, the Needham striker's shot however beat the keeper but bounced side off the base of the bottom left corner of the post. The young Marketmen then had another chance on 56 minutes, great play from Ben Harris down the right wing, keeping the ball well saw the for ward's first crossed cleared back to him whose second attempt almost picked out Kai Fletcher at the far post, but instead went not too much past the bottom of the post. Two minutes later, Needham once more had a great opportunity to score, after getting down the right wing well Taylor Sumpter delivered a great ball across the face of goal in towards two Needham players running in but evaded them, as the ball went just past the post, whilst Ben Harris tried again on 61 minutes, this time though the shot was blocked.

At the other end, Debenham got through on 63 minutes, although the shot was low and straight Owen Elsdon. Nine minutes later, Harris had another try at goal, this time from the right edge of the box but met the same outcome as his previous shot. The Reds almost drew level once more on 76 minutes, as Konnor Fletcher teed up Kai Fletcher on the right edge of the box, the latter hit a great low strike at the bottom near corner with the keeper beaten, the ball agonisingly hit the base of the near post. Moments later though, Konnor Fletcher was released running through onto the right in the box to shoot at goal himself, although this occasion the keeper was off his line well to dive down smother behind his near post for a corner. Debenham picked out Poxon through in acres of space on the right on 77 minutes, with the substitute flashing a ball across the face of goal but nobody was there to get to it in a Debenham shirt. Needham though kept plugging a way at an equaliser on 78 minutes, Kai Fletcher finding Ben Harris in the box on the right-hand side, the latter's blocked shot falling to Caleb Palmer close  to goal though the keeper smother the shot behind his near left post.

Debenham then struck against the run of play on 84 minutes, sealing the win as Poxon was in space on the left close to goal to shoot low into bottom far corner. Four minutes later, Debenham then knocked the ball past Elsdon well off his line on the right in the box, though the ball in was vitally blocked by a defender. Moments later, the keeper charged off his line once more as Brown though down the left was fouled by the stopper, with a freekick given. The set-piece was taken by Watling a minute into added time, curling into the top near corner as Elsdon made amends for the foul by diving across well to tip over. A minute later, Kai Fletcher weaved through well to the left edge of the box to shoot at the top near corner, as the strike was fired narrowly over. Four minutes into added time, Konnor Fletcher was found on the right hand side in the box to square across to Tom Fitzgerald six yards out, who headed onto Cowler at the far post though the defence cleared, denying Needham a deserved goal as Debenham took the spoils in a very good game contested by two good teams.
