Marketmen Defeated 0-3 by Kettering Second Half Goals
By Drew Kendall
Needham Market 0-3 Kettering Town
Despite a good first half performance, Needham Market lost out in the second half as Kettering broke their hosts defence three times within 15 second half minutes.
Arguably the half-time score was fair, with Needham having the first chance. Luke Ingram going for a low drive 20-yards from goal, but shot wide of the left post on 2 minutes. The Reds were on top early on, Marsden's well struck 20-yard strike was deflected out for a throw-in on the right after 5 minutes. A minute later, Issa's 20-yard free-kick on the right edge of the area curled over the wall before dipping towards the bottom right corner- forcing the keeper to beat the strike away.
Back came Kettering, whose shot on the left byline in the area went straight to Jessup at the near post after 8 minutes. Meikle was then given acres of space 20-yards from goal, but skied his shot over the bar on 18 minutes. Twelve minutes later, Richens' shot on the edge of the box was blocked by Keiran Morphew as the visitors kept up the pressure.
Down the other end a minute later, Mills fed Heath on the left in the area as the Needham skipper blazed his shot over the top far corner. Marsden was then hauled down on the right edge of the box on 33 minutes, as the ball was rolled to Issa. However, the on-loan Colchester man's powerful strike towards the far corner was blocked. With 11 minutes to go before the break, Hoeness' appeals for a penalty, after a kick out on the left-side of the box, were waved away by the referee.
On 36 minutes, a low Kettering effort on the right in the area was cleared off the line, before the Poppies' low strike on the right was saved by Jessup down to his left st his near post- as the hosts put the rebound wide after 43 minutes.
Just before the interval, Kettering had the last shot of the half, Kelly's effort on the right inside the area going well over the bar.

A minute after the restart, Kettering took control of proceedings, winning a corner on the right but the header at the back post was put behind for another corner. On 52 minutes, Kettering's ball in on the right was met by Kelly at the far post but struck the ball straight at the face of a home defender.
Ten minutes into the second half Kettering went in front, after the ball was driven into the box Meikle was on hand to net into the left corner. The Marketmen then had a half-chance after 57 minutes, Squires, soon after from extending his loan spell at Needham, shot wide of the far post from the left edge of the box. Kettering then skied over the bar on 63 minutes, before doubling their lead in the following minute.
Meikle's ball over the defence found O'Connor to volley well past Jessup and into the left corner. With 20 minutes to go, Kettering made the points safe in superb style, Meikle curling a fantastic strike into the top right corner. Back came the Marketmen on 77 minutes, Mills' great cross in on the left met the head of home debutant Baker who headed wide at the near post.
Kettering then had a chance for a fourth on 88 minutes, curling a free-kick over the wall and the top left corner, from the edge of the area. The two sides then exchanged a shot each as the game reached it's conclusion.
Mills' shot on the left of the box going wide of the near post for the hosts on 87 minutes, before the Poppies fired over the top near corner, from the right edge of the area on 90+1 minutes. That was that, as the visitors took the points with them on their way back home.
After the final whistle, Match Sponsor Paul Munn selected his Man Of The Match for Needham, which went to Keiran Morphew.
