The road to Wembley - first level completed!

The Marketmen seal the Barton tie with 4 goals.

The Marketmen had a good visit to Barton-le-Clay on their first step towards Wembley. The hosts, who currently play their football in the Evo-Stik South Division One Central and the Marketmen were both seeking that place in the hat and the £6k prize fund. At the end the 154 crowd saw Barton overwhelmed by the Marketmen who looked dominate throughout.

The starting XI saw Luke Ingram drop back into the back four to replace the injured Keiran Morphew, George Exworth also came in for the injured Joseph Marsden and Reece Dobson slotting into a striking role.

The early stages of the game set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, with the hosts trying to find a way through but with no much joy, partly due to poor final balls and stout Marketmen defending. It was the Marketmen who gained the ascendancy and looked the most threatening.

The Marketmen continued to press on with Jeremiah Kamanzi combining with Adam Mills for a nice one-two on the left hand side of the box, which saw the former shot cleared by the host defence.

Shortly afterwards the Marketmen midfield put a nice passing move together, which eventually found Reece Dobson, but alas his final cross couldn't find anyone in a red shirt to finish it off.

This was followed by some good work by Adam Mills on the left, who played the ball into Gareth Heath, in turn set up a chance for Reece Dobson to have a shot, unfortunately the shot went wide.

A minute or so later the Marketmen were awarded a free kick, which Gareth Heath delivered into the box, the Barton defence managed to half clear it, but it fell to Jeremiah Kamanzi who blazed his shot wide.

Just after the 15 minute mark the Hosts ventured forward and as the ball entered the Marketmens' area, they appealed for a penalty apparently for handball, this was quickly dismissed by the referee waving play on.

A couple of minutes later Adam Mills received a ball on the left, after some good work he delivered the cross into the Barton area and like a previous attack the host defence only managed to half clear it, again it fell to Jeremiah Kamanzi, who this time buried the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 NMFC.

After taking the lead the Marketmen looked in control and were passing the ball about comfortably and although they didn't create as many chances as some might of hoped, chances nevertheless came their way.

Jamie Griffiths collected the ball and took it on before feeding Gareth Heath, whose shot was blocked by the Barton defence resulting in a corner, which had to be dealt with smartly by the home defenders.

A break by Jeremiah Kamanzi saw him feed Reece Dobson, who was in a good position for a shot, which resulted in going over the bar.

George Exworth linked up with Reece Dobson to provide Jamie Griffiths with a chance, but this time his effort was cleared by the Barton defence.

Barton did have an opportunity to muster up something from a free kick late on in the half, but their shot went over the bar.

In the final minute of the half the Marketmen had a chance to create something when a ball found Adam Mills out wide, however his cross was blocked which just resulted in a corner.

Half Time: Barton Rovers 0 vs Needham Market 1

The second half started as it left off in the first, the Marketmen had the ascendancy and it was not long before they had their first attempt of the half, when a ball found Adam Mills, whose resulting shot was saved by the hosts keeper.

The hosts keeper was also called into action a few moments later when he had to save an attempt from Jamie Griffiths, following a nice flick on by Jeremiah Kamanzi.

Soon afterwards Jamie Griffiths played a good through ball to Reece Dobson, but he was fouled giving the Marketmen a chance to produce something from the free kick. Gareth Heath delivered it but it just eluded Jamie Griffiths.

As the Marketmen looked to increase their lead George Exworth and Jamie Griffiths linked up and exchanged passes on the right, this led to a shot from Jamie Griffiths, unfortunately for him and the team it went wide.

A couple of minutes later George Exworth was fouled as he was bringing the ball forward. The Barton player picked up a yellow card for his challenge and the resulting free kick was knocked towards goal by Callum Sturgess, it came to Adam Mills but once again the shot went wide.

George Exworth was again involved in a move, when he played a ball into Gareth Heath, who in turn found Adam Mills whose effort went the wrong side of the post.

Approaching the hour mark Barton were the first to make a change and shortly afterwards it lead to their best passage of the game, in which they passed the ball about well, creating a good opportunity which needed a good block from the Marketmen defender. The block bounced kindly for the Marketmen and were able to break with Reece Dobson winning a corner. He did put the ball into the net from the resulting corner, but the whistle had already gone for a foul.

There was a bit of concern for the Marketmen management when Callum Sturgess went over on his ankle and had to be replaced by Conor McLaughlin, who slotted well into the left back role. The feedback on the injury later on suggested it was a slight sprain.

A few minutes later Barton were guilty of of mastering their own downfall when one of their defenders played a bad back pass that let in Reece Dobson 30 yards out. He cooly ran on and tucked the ball passed the advancing keeper. 2-0 NMFC.

Barton tried to rally, they had a chance with a free kick and a break led by their number 10 that ended up with Jake Jessup having to make a save. After that, Barton to their credit kept plugging away but couldn't find much in the way that would trouble the Marketmen defence.

The Marketman continued to create opportunities with Adam Mills causing problems running at the Barton defence and his chip at the end of the run had to be saved. Moments later Jamie Griffiths tried a speculative long range chip which unfortunately went over the bar.

Well into the final 5 minutes of normal time the Marketmen midfield played a deep ball to far side of the hosts area where Jeremiah Kamanzi was waiting, he won the first header which was half cleared and whilst challenging for the second header he was adjudged to have been pushed, penalty to the Marketmen. With no Joseph Marsden out there, it was down to Daniel Morphew to do the honours from the spot, he duly obliged putting the ball into the roof of the net. 3-0 NMFC.

Barton looked to maybe get a consolation and had a chance as injury time ticked by. However they couldn't find a way through and their shot was cleared by the Marketmen defence.

The Marketmen were not content to play it into the corners to see out time, and when a throw in found Jamie Griffiths rather than make for the corner flag he opted to cut inside instead. He then produced a great chip into the box, which Adam Mills gratefully nodded over the home keeper into the back of the net. 4-0 NMFC.

The Marketmen made two substitutions in the final two minutes, thus giving Tyler Rose and Jamie Carragher a taste of FA Cup football, when they replaced Jamie Griffiths and Adam Mills respectively.

The final whistle sounded and it was Job done. The Marketmen go safely through to Mondays' draw and the prize fund of £6K goes safely through to our bank account. All is left now is hoping lady luck will be on our side for the draw, with preference to a home tie, else the next 1st team action at Bloomfields after next weeks home game could be in the first week of October!
