Suffolk New College has been providing local sportsmen with the opportunity to develop their football skills and gain recognised academic qualifications since July 2000. In 2008 this opportunity was made available to women. This programme is under the name of Suffolk New College Football Scheme and is no longer called PASE.
The scheme is designed to help students achieve their sporting potential within a footballing environment and to further their education through the diverse ranges of courses available at Suffolk New College. In addition the Level 1 coaching course in football will be made available to every student enrolled.
The Suffolk New College Football Scheme aims to provide all students with a minimum of 12 hours of coaching each week (depenent upon academic timetables). There will be opportunities to play at a high standard in the Football Conference Youth League and the British Colleges Sports League.
The scheme is delivered by F.A. licenced coaches who will provide top level coaching on all aspects of the game through practical training sessions and classroom based lessons.
Our link with NMFC will provide players with the chance to play in the Ridgeons reserve league whilst giving NMFC the opportunity to have an established crop of 16 to 19 year old players who, if they are talented enough can make the transition to senior 1st team football.
We see the reserves as a true link between the youth set up, Needham Phoenix, and the 1st team at NMFC.
We also have linked with Ipswich Town Community Trust, and it is under their name that we will play in the Football Conference Youth League on Wednesday afternoons.
