The Marketmen welcomed Bognor Regis Town to a blusterous Bloomfields and with 90 minutes played there was little to separate the sides. With the games goals all arriving in the opening period, a point apiece was just reward for an entertaining Ryman Premier league game.
In the opening stages, it was Needham who began on the front foot. The hosts handed recent arrival Cameron Norman his debut, the midfield powerhouse signed from Conference South outfit Concord Rangers earlier on in the week. Both Darryl Coakley and John Sands failed to test The Rocks goalkeepr Dan Lincoln, despite good spells of possession and neat link up play in tricky conditions.
On 22 minutes, the visitors broke the deadlock. A deep cross from Rocks captain James Crane was headed beyond Needham keeper Danny Gay by Gary Charman. Six minutes after this, Dylan Barnetts strike was off target as the table toppers looked to double their advantage.
However, on 35 minutes The Marketmen equalised through Luke Ingram. Jack Simmons inch perfect cross was glanced home by Ingram into the far corner, a goal which takes his tally to an impressive 14 in all competitions.
The joy of an equaliser was to prove rather short-lived as Bognor regained the lead on 38 minutes. After two vital blocks, the Needham defence could only clear their lines as far as Sami El-Abd who bundled the ball into the net from close range.
On 44 minutes, ex Colchester United and current Needham skipper Kem Izzet equalised for the second time in the half. After Sands initial shot was blocked, Izzet swept a sweet strike into the corner from distance with aplomb.
Half Time: Needham Market 2-2 Bognor Regis Town
Into the second half and it was the Needham shot-stopper who was called into action on 47 and 54 minutes respectively. Gay pushed Ollie Pearces effort round the post for a corner, before calmly gathering Barnetts low drive.
With several minutes remaining, Ingrams strike from outside the penalty area was wide of the target in front of a sizeable crowd of 434 which was bolstered by a large away presence.
In truth, it was Needham Market who posed the greater threat when going forward in the latter stages, but they were to be denied by a resolute Bognor defence, with a share of the spoils in Suffolk.
A vital point for Needham in their quest for a play-off place after back-to-back away defeats at Billericay and Dulwich Hamlet. Meanwhile, the Rocks are most certainly in pole position for the Ryman League title.
