Needham Market suffered a play-off damaging result as they were outplayed by mid-table Staines Town on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking an early lead in Middlesex, The Marketmen went on to lose 4-1.
Needham broke the deadlock with just 5 minutes played. Staines failed to deal with Darryl Coakleys deep free-kick and Ian Millers strike gave the guests the perfect start.
The goal was to prove a wake up call for the hosts and they soon had some glorious chances of their own.
Adrian Clifton escaped a challenge in the centre of the park before driving towards goal, but dragged his shot wide when well placed.
Wadah Ahmidi was also guilty of missing the target, as a resurgent Staines had better spells of possession and dictated play.
On 32 minutes Jonathan Hippolyte missed a guilt edged chance for The Swans. He was on the receiving end of an in swinging cross but somehow his shot failed to test goalkeeper Danny Gay.
Meanwhile, with two red kites swirling over Wheatsheaf Park, Needhams Callum Harrison was on the hunt for a goal. His header was off-target from Jack Simmonds cross on 36 minutes.
Having set his sights earlier on in the half, Ahmidis powerful strike from 20 yards was in the back of the net in an instant. The goal coming on 40 minutes and in truth was just reward for The Swans spirited first half.

On 56, Bayley Brown put Staines 2-1 up when he converted from close range with the Needham defence stretched.
Visiting Manager Mark Morsley announced in the week that he is to step aside as Manager as of next season to fulfil a Chairman like role, with Richard Wilkins taking over the helm.
As Morsley looked to change things he brought on forward Reece Dobson, and Dobsons through ball set John Sands clear on goal. However, his powerful shot could only find the side netting as Needhams frustrations grew.
The killer blow came on 67 minutes. Clifton netted Staines third goal and it was in a very similar fashion to the second. Having failed to stop the cross, Clifton was left with the simplest of finishes in front of goal.
Hippolyte added a fourth goal on 90 minutes with a fierce strike from 15 yards, before he was cautioned for his shirtless celebration.
Full Time: Staines Town 4-1 Needham Market
A thoroughly disappointing afternoon for The Marketmen, as Staines extend their unbeaten run to 9 games. Despite only 2 wins in their last 11 matches, the play-offs could still be a possibility for the Suffolk outfit. They travel to Metropolitan Police on Saturday with three points essential.
