Match report
The Marketmen recorded a valuable 2-1 victory against Grays Athletic this evening. The scorers were Colchester loanee Callum Harrison and Luke Ingram either side of Grays Kieran Bishops strike.

With temperatures precariously close to freezing, there was little action to warm the crowd until the 25th minute. A speculative, dipping effort from distance proved too much for Amadou Tangara in the Athletic goal and Harrison scored with his and Needhams first shot on goal.

The hosts responded well after conceding and Danny Gay made a string of saves, most notably denying Alex Cunningham.

On 35 minutes, the woodwork came to The Marketmens rescue. Kieran Bishop prodded against the post, as the visitors slender lead was now looking rather precarious.

With 42 minutes played, Bishop equalised from inside the penalty area and was just reward for a resurgent Grays.

Half Time: Grays Athletic 1-1 Needham Market

The Markets Ollie Snaith was the key man in a counter attack before his shot was parried away for a corner.

After a strong run, Luke Ingram was upended in the penalty area. Despite this golden opportunity, Jack Curtis saw his spot kick saved by The Gravelmens goalkeeper Tangara as the score remained all square.

However, Curtis soon made amends for this as he played a pivotal part in what turned out to be Needhams winning goal just before the hour mark. His through ball found Ingram in space and he made no mistake with a hard, low strike into the bottom corner. (59)

Despite a late home onslaught which included a flurry of set pieces, the Suffolk side yielded all three points. A true smash and grab result.
