Match report
The Marketmen travelled to recent FA Cup 1st Round participants Merstham in the Ryman Premier League this afternoon.

The hosts star man Daniel Bennett netted a hat-trick as Needham were put to the sword in a 4-1 defeat in Surrey.

As they looked to put Saturdays 2-0 defeat to Tonbridge Angels behind them, it was Needham who began on the front foot in the opening stages. The lively Ollie Snaith was instrumental in their attack, but clear cut chances were few and far between.

With half an hour played it was the hosts who then appeared most likely to break the deadlock. So it was of little surprise when The Moatsiders took the lead on 34 minutes through Dan Hector. Hector was unmarked at the far post and made no mistake from close range as his shot went into the roof of the net.

This lead was soon extended through Bennett just two minutes after Needham had conceded. A neat turn from Bennett inside the penalty area before his composed strike left goalkeeper Danny Gay helpless in the guests goal.

HT: Merstham 2-0 Needham Market

Market Manager Mark Morsley enforced a double substitution at half time with Sam Nunn and Manny Osei replacing Luke Ingram and Reece Dobson.

On 56 minutes, Billy Hollands bullet header halved the deficit for Needham as they were rewarded for their bright start after the interval.

However, a third Merstham goal on 62 minutes most certainly took the wind from the Needham sails. With Callum Harrison dispossessed, the dangerous Bennett was on hand to capitalise as he scored his second.

The three points were ensured for a now dominant Merstham on 70 minutes as Bennett completed his hat-trick.
