Match report
For the second season running Needham Market welcomed Burgess Hill Town to Bloomfields for the opening game of the season.

On a lovely warm afternoon with Bloomfields looking in fine order a minutes silence was acknowledged by everyone in memory of one of Needhams long supporters Norman Thorpe who passed away last month.

It was an even, competitive start and the first chance fell to the hosts. Neat play from recent arrival Reece Dobson resulted in a deep cross but it evaded Michael Brothers in the box.

The Marketmen took the lead just minutes later when Luke Ingram surged into the penalty area and found Jack Curtis. He cooly slotted into the bottom corner beyond Josh James in the Burgess Hill goal. A debut goal after just 10 minutes for the Colchester loanee Curtis.

The visitors responded well after going a goal down early on. Lee Hardings shot from distance tested Danny Gay.
On 33 minutes Dan Thompson shot wide from range.

The Hillians then struck the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds. It was the crossbar and then the post which came to Needhams rescue as the half drew to an end with the hosts lead intact, albeit rather fortuitously.

Half Time: Needham Market 1-0 Burgess Hill Town

Into the second half and Michael Brothers fired over the crossbar for The Marketmen as the game opened up.

Tyrell Richardson-Brown was brought on as a substitute and it was his goal on 84 minutes which drew the sides level. An error in the Needham defence allowed him in on goal and he made no mistake scoring in the far corner. A bitter blow for Needham especially after having the lead for such a long period in the game.
